The Owner Says

Bang in the wooded heartland of the Périgord in the Dordogne region of France, Huttopia’s Sarlat site is as well-situated as it is brilliantly equipped, occupying a beautiful woodland location just a 10-minute walk from the medieval market town of Sarlat.

Nestled amongst the trees, these family friendly canvas tents are the perfect place for family holidays, of up to four people!

These tents include an indoor living/dining area, with a fully kitted out kitchenette complete with gas stove and plenty of crockery and utensils.

Sleeping quarters are: one double bedroom, and a second bedroom with two single beds. So you can enjoy the wonders of camping with the comfort of real beds! Please bring your own bedding or hire these as an additional extra. Newly refurbished shower block facilities are just a short stroll away.

The large wooden terrace with its awning is the perfect setting for al fresco dining any time of the day.

Order your bread and pastries the night before, so you can wake up to freshly baked bread and breakfast treats, delivered by the local bakery – the perfect way to start your day!

During the key summer months the campsite hosts a Kids Club with a range of craft and game activities, or enjoy a fun evening watching a magic show or the open-air film night.

There is plenty to do on site with a choice of two swimming pools, one heated covered pool complete with a sauna, and one exterior pool as well as a smaller childrens pool. You can kick back and relax in a sun lounger or enjoy some shade under a parasol, whilst lounging around pool side.

The volley ball court, table tennis, pétanque, tennis courts and football pitch will keep everyone entertained, whilst off site you can enjoy some canoeing down the Dordogne and Vezere rivers where you can enjoy a spot of wild swimming from one of the many river beaches which line their banks. With so much beautiful countryside on your doorstep there are magnificent walks to be enjoyed on the footpaths of Périgord Noir.

There is a Pizza-grill in the centre of the site which is open every evening in July and August and during the French May Bank holidays. You can enjoy home made pizzas on the terrace or quench your thirst with an icy cold drink from the bar.

The central Lodge is situated in the main stone building and is open year round. You can enjoy the library corner and curl up with a book, or play some board games, or simply enjoy a drink with family and newly made friends. There is also a tourist information point here, and you can also purchase tokens for the laundry block.

Some of the region's most spectacular castles and caves are just a short drive away, while Sarlat itself is the epitome of a handsome small French town, with a lively weekly market and any number of nice places to eat, drink and make merry and just a 10 minute walk away. It also has a mini supermarket, bank, bakery and a tourist information centre.

Video Tour

Sarlat is a beautiful medieval town by any standards, capital of the Perigord and a delightful mix of narrow streets and large, honey-coloured mansions. But the river Dordogne holds the region's real treasures: follow the river beyond Sarlat to the fortified towns of Beynac, whose castle perches high above the river, Castelnaud (0033 5 5331 3000) and Roque Gageac, all of which are worth a visit. Further afield, touristy Rocamadour (0033 5 6533 2200) is even more spectacular, while the caves at Padirac (0033 5 6533 6456) and Lascaux are also within easy driving distance. You could see some of the best spots along the river by canoe; and don't think that being so far from the sea means you can't go for a swim: there are beaches on the river at Carsac-Aillac (9km away), La Roque- Gageac (13km) and at Castelnaud (also 13km away).

Food & Drink

There's a daily bread service providing fresh baguettes and croissants each morning, and a café-restaurant (open July and August) serving drinks, snacks and homemade pizzas. For eating out, Sarlat has plenty of good cafés and restaurants – try the tiny Bistrot L'Adresse (0033 5 5330 5619), which is a proper locals' restaurant, popular with families, or the hearty portions at Chez le Gaulois (0033 5 5359 5064).
