The Owner Says

A natural environment where visitors can truly take a break, La Parenthèse – Camping Les Ormes is a stunning campsite, finished to perfection that redefines comfort with its laid-back ambiance, efficient facilities and general panache.
The Takla Makan is a set of 2*25m2 tents, joined by a large outdoor terrace. One of the tents includes a living area, and the other has a bedroom which can accommodate 6 people. Both tents are beautifully decorated in a vintage style decor. The large and spacious wooden terrace is the ideal spot for dinner outdoors, or to relax on the sun loungers. There is one double bed, and four single beds in the bedroom of one of the tents, and the single beds can be pushed closer together if required. Mosquito nets protect each of the beds. The kitchen is equipped with a gas cooking stove, a knife set, a fridge, cooking utensils, pots and pans and a kettle. There is also a French vintage style chest of drawers and sideboard. The water connection is located not far away, as are the two shower blocks, which have a separate baby changing area, washing machines and tumble dryers.
Pets are permitted, dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and are prohibited from swimming pool areas and in food shops. Vaccination certificates must be up-to-date for all pets. Read the campsite terms and let us know if you bring it with you!

From elaborate cuisine to snacking, through traditional menus or pizzas, at La Parenthèse Camping Les Ormes you will find three types of catering and three chic and rustic atmospheres for your gourmet breaks. The restaurant, also open to people outside the campsite, La Paillotte – a tavern hut by the lake for a dinner with your feet in the sand and Food truck, a poolside snack bar.

The on site facilities are vast at La Parenthèse, with a black granite swimming pool, open daily from 8.30am until 07.30pm. A separate kiddie pool, a sandy beach on the banks of the lake, a pontoon from which you can fish or just gaze up at the starry sky. Swings, climbing frames, pétanque, ping Pong, volley ball, football pitches or the tennis court will keep you active!

It's well worth exploring the surrounding area, as this part of France is steeped in history and culture. Medieval villages and bastides of Villeréal/ Monflanquin are just over 5 minutes drive from the campsite, and offer wonderful local markets. The medieval festival in Monflanquin is well worth a visit during August, with street processions, jousting, horse parades to name but a few things on show. Monpazier is rich in medieval architecture, conveniently located between Sarlat and Bergerac, whilst the Chateau de Gavaudun 40m high on a rocky cliff, has themed days during the summer months, to bring to life the medieval experience for young and old to enjoy! Do not forget to stop at the tree climbing park in Lacapelle Biron where the non climbers will appreciate the natural swimming pool.
The largest town is Bergerac, sitting on the banks of the Dordogne river, just over half an hour away, rich in local produce as foie gras, duck magret, prunes and Marmande tomatoes. For those after a wine tour, Monbazillac and its majestic Château, is a great place to explore, where you can enjoy a tasting of their famous sweet wine or just stay closer and taste the wine in Biron, next to its famous castle.
After all that exploring, you will no doubt savour your lay back moment on site with a glass of something tasty, either pool side or in the comfort of your very own deck chair. Let the laid-back atmosphere seep in, simply unwind and relax, you are on holiday after all...

Activities

The nearest town of any real interest is beautiful Bergerac, which takes its name from the celebrated wordsmith with the oversized proboscis. You can see a statue of him in the old town; that is if you’re not too busy stocking up on wine in one of a clutch of excellent wine-sellers. Red is the colour to go for here. The region is famous for its vino and there are great deals to be had. The old town undulates through a series of sun-dappled courtyards to the river and it makes for a lovely morning visit, wandering through the narrow alleys and getting lost. Closer to home there are a number of fortified medieval villages (bastides) including Villeréal, Monflanquin, and Monpazier, all with arcaded squares and vibrantly French with weekend markets selling everything from foie gras to local produce. Keep an eye out, too, for vide greniers (translates as ‘empty the attic’), France’s version of a car boot sale. You never know, you might just pick up something interesting. Come August, the towns recall their medieval past with the costumed festivals of the Vallée du Dropt. If you fancy a wine dégustation in a beautiful historic setting, head to Château de Monbazillac (0033 5 53 63 65 00) to try their sweet white wine. There’s also an 18-hole golf course right next to the campsite.

Food & Drink

We are surrounded by great places, great restaurant managed by awesome people:

Etincelles (00 33 5 53 74 08 79) in nearby Ste-Sabine-Born village has a Michelin star and is celebrated for its authentic French cooking. Nord/sud or L'Hotel de l'Europe & Maggies Café in Villeréal. La Bassivière restaurant an authentic restaurant in an old bar. Le Prince Noir or L'effet Maison in Monflanquin. To be honest, though, La Parenthèse restaurant has a terrific menu and we have not talked about the food truck by the pool and the Paillotte next to the lake yet, so will you be going out for dinner?!
