The Owner Says

Warm in all seasons thanks to its wood stove in the centre of the living-room, this wood cabin combines aesthetics and comfort perfectly. The interior in wood exudes well-being and serenity. The cabin is situated within a chalet village on a seven-hectare site in the heart of the national forest, just 300 metres from the gondolas.

The cabin has accommodation over two floors. On the ground floor is a bedroom with a double bed (140×200), a living area with a sofa bed (double bed), wood-burning stove, dining area, kitchen area (sink, gas cooker, microwave oven, fridge, dishwasher, coffee maker, crockery). The living area opens on to a covered wooden terrace with a picnic table and parasol, two fold-out chairs, and a PrimaGrill barbecue. There's also a bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin.

Upstairs is a second bedroom with two single beds (80×200) and a mezzanine area with storage space.
There are plenty of facilities and services on site including a snack bar and pizza restaurant during peak season, a central lodge with free Wi-Fi, books, games, sofas and an open fire, a playground, table tennis and table football. There's also a handy 'camper's corner' shop for any essentials you've forgotten and tourist information in reception. Activities for children are organised throughout school holidays.

Bikes can be hired 300m down the road with both road bikes and mountain bikes available or, for something lower octane, you can fly fish in the waters at Lake Bouillouses 20km away. At the foot of Le Mont Canigou, Le Casteil animal reserve (04 68 05 67 54) is home to rare native species, including wolves, mouflon sheep, bears and an assortment of birds.  For a little history, visit Mont-Louis (10km away), the highest fortified town in France and surely one of the prettiest too.

Food & Drink

The restaurant onside serves excellent homemade pizzas, along with a host of other snacks and drinks best enjoyed out on the terrace. It's only open over the May public holidays and through July and August. Outside of those times there are still plenty of great eateries in Font-Romeu as well as in historic Mont-Louis, which is worth the extra drive.
