Omaha Meadows Camp Site
UK England South West England Dorset Wimborne Minster
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay near Bournemouth and the New Forest, how about a nice B&B? No, we’re not sending you indoors to a chintzy guesthouse and, yes, we are still in the business of promoting camping, glamping and the great outdoors. We’re talking about Omaha Meadows, which provides a type of B&B we can get on board with; bell-tent-and-breakfast. It’s a neat idea from a neat little site on the border of Hampshire and Dorset.
Each morning at Omaha Meadows, you wake up and unzip your tent to find a cool box that’s been replenished with the breakfast of your choice; cereal and croissants or bacon and eggs ready to cook at your camp cook station. There are just two bell tents here, sharing a riverside paddock with a pair of goats over one fence and a handful of motorhomes over the other. You share sparkling clean facilities with the latter but shhh – don’t tell the van-fans that the grass is greener on your side of the fence where the river is closer and the tents more tucked away.
Alan and Jane, who own both sides of the campsite, have made their bell tents cosy and the camping easy with all they’ve included. Inside there are beds, bedding and blankets. Outside the cook stations are little lean-tos with kitchen cupboard kit, a camping stove and space to wash up. There’s outdoor furniture with a canopy cover and log seating around fire pits, which are available to hire if you want.
There are pubs, takeaways and restaurants just ten minutes’ walk away in Verwood but the real delight is even closer. The entrance to Moor Valley Country Park. This 1,000-acre natural playground is well-known in the area but little known outside it. Just five minutes’ walk from the campsite gate, there are walking routes, cycle trails, adventure play parks, Go Ape, segways and lakes for fishing. There’s enough to keep you busy all day, perhaps even all week, but you might want to leave time for this region’s big hitters too. It’s a short drive of ten miles to the New Forest National Park and just 15 miles to the beach at Bournemouth.

Location
Getting There
From Ringwood take the A31 towards Bournemouth for a mile-and-a-half then take the exit towards Verwood (B3081). Stay on this road towards Verwood for three miles then turn left into Woodlinken Drive. When you reach a crossroad, after about a mile, turn left onto Newtown Road and then left again onto Manor Road and left again on to Potterne Way. Omaha Meadows Campsite is on the left, after 100 metres, next to the second lamp post. You will see a large white house on your left and the entrance is immediately after it. If using SatNav, be aware it will take you past the entrance and it is impossible to turn around with a caravan or large motorhome.
The closest train station is at Bournemouth (15 miles away). From there, you can hop on one of the regular buses to Ringwood and change for Verwood. There’s a bus top at the end of the road, two minutes’ walk from the campsite.
