Features & Facilities
Treehouses have dry eco-toilets inside but for electricity, running water, showers and proper flushing loos there is a sanitary block on ground level, near reception. Treehouse interiors vary but all include proper beds, tables and chairs, veranda from which to savour the views and ample storage space. Bedding is not provided, so you will need to bring your own sleeping bags, and there is no heating in the treehouses, so bring appropriate clothing.
The local area is excellent for walking, cycling and mountain biking. One of the most popular trails nearby is the Dolce Via, an 80-kilometre stretch of well-maintained, car-free path in the Eyrieux valley ideal for walkers and cyclists and also popular on horseback. If you'd like to hack it by horse, you can sign up for short or day-long rides from a stables 10 minutes’ drive away in Saint-Jean-Chambre. To see the surrounds in more comfort, board the narrow-gauge railway (0033 4 7506 0700) through the Doux valley from Lamastre, 15 minutes away, or take a scenic swim at Lac aux Ramiers (25 minutes). For more organised aquatics, there is also a waterpark in Eyrium (25 minutes). For local history, it's a half-hour drive to the charming village of Désaignes – officially listed as one of the 'Ardeche Villages of Character' – it has a 14th-century château (0033 4 7506 6621), a Roman church and original city walls with three ramparted entrances still intact. The castle also now houses a museum of Ardèche culture.
Food & Drink
Breakfast is delivered to the foot of your tree each morning by either Filou the friendly donkey or Blueberry the mule. If all goes well, the trusted steeds usually arrive between 8:30am–9:30am and attach the hamper to a rope. You can then hoist your breakfast up into the treehouse. There is also a pre-order service for optional evening hampers, collected at the reception, which makes the most of local produce (vegetarian menus on request). For something different, it's a 10-minute drive to La Belle Vert (0033 4 7558 0049) an excellent, small-time restaurant and café in the village of Saint-Jean-Chambre.
