Hand-crafted luxury wagons on a working farm in the North Norfolk countryside

Picture 360 degree views, huge skies, hop fields and gorgeous sunsets. Prairie Skies is a brand new, collaborative composition, put together from the ground up by the talented team of Nick and Maddie. It all began when Madeleine first set up the beautiful Indian Summer Tipis retreat in a nearby meadow, but the location was just too special not to do something more with it. Nick was inspired to create four beautiful and unique luxury wagons and with his 37 years of carpentry knowledge, paired with Madeleine’s experienced eye for art and design, the wagons are a true masterpiece.

Nestled within the 3.25 acres of land that make up Norfolk’s Salle Moor Hall Farm, each of the four wagons is unique, carved out of larch, cedar and oak, and utilising reclaimed fixtures such as iron work and doors. The design further exemplifies the eco-friendly nature of this solar-powered, bespoke site - Prairie Skies really is a one-of-a-kind spot. The wagons have been created to provide a home-away-from-home that’s quite a step-up from the more commonly seen shepherd's huts. Masses of love, care and attention have gone into making them into a truly romantic and magical escape. There’s rustic but luxurious furnishings, hand-crafted, vintage pieces, plus roaring wood burners to keep you cosy on the colder evenings.

All the special touches to make your stay comfortable have been thought of. The double bed with duck down and feather duvet is snug and homely, while the table and chairs are in just the perfect spot to enjoy your morning cup of tea and the kitchen has been thoughtfully planned to use electricity from the site’s solar array. Hot showers and flushing toilets are located next door in the Bathhouse - yet another quirky design by Nick. Built like a Victorian agricultural trailer, there are two shower rooms both with sinks and toilets, as well as another separate toilet. These aren’t your standard tiled cubicles either, the walls are lined with beautifully intricate artworks.

This is an adults-only site which ensures peace, quiet and relaxation no matter the time but you’ll find there’s still plenty of activities to get involved in right within the farm grounds. Salle Moor Hall Farm is a celebration of local businesses, its land is rented out to local artisans, breweries and the like, who perfectly integrate with the lush Norfolk countryside scenery and offer visitors a little something they won’t get anywhere else, from the All Day Brewing Company that brews its beers and ciders on-site, to the uplifting Norfolk Coffee Co. and its house blends. By night you can choose to be social and star gaze around the big fire pit and communal dining area or spend a romantic evening for two huddled up together in your cosy abode.

Nearby

Norfolk setting, surrounded by beautiful  countryside and villages but also within striking distance of Reepham market town just 1 mile away.
The area is wonderful for walking with immediate access to many footpaths and there's a magnificent church at Salle, just across the fields. Striking for its size given the tiny village – it was funded by several local lords, including the Boleyn family. For cycling, The Marriotts Way Heritage Trail is just down the lane (less than a mile away) and offers a car-free route all the way into Norwich or, in the opposite direction, to the market town of Aylsham where National Trust-owned Blickling Hall has extensive grounds, gardens and a lake to roam around, as well as going into the 17th-century stately home itself.  The coast is just half an hours drive away as is The Broads and Norwich.

Food & Drink

A few minutes walk away, All Day Brewing Company (01603 327656), craft brewers specialising in wild and mixed fermentations. They also ferment a range of foods for the kitchen and serve up freshly made vegetarian and vegan food, including wood fired, sourdough pizzas on Friday and Saturday evenings (beers and ales available Tuesday–Saturday).

Located next door the taproom is artisan coffee roasters  - The Norfolk Coffee Co. Ethically sourced and roasting beans right there on the premises. Pop in to buy freshly ground beans or for a coffee and cake.

The farm also hosts a vegetable box scheme, Salle Moor Market Garden (01603 879046), so organic seasonal vegetables and mixed salad leaves can be purchased right on your doorstep.

In Reepham,  The Kings Arm's (01603 870345), a 17th-century coaching inn, serves good food with many vegetarian and vegan dishes available. The Georgian country house, Dial House (01603 879900) with its quirky interiors  is the one for fine dining. Open for breakfast , lunch and dinner. Both are on the main square, where there's also a good butcher's and, just off the square, V's café (01603 879300), which offers something more quick and casual during the day. Three miles in the opposite direction, it takes around 10 minutes to drive to beautiful and historic Heydon, where The Earle Arms pub (01263 587376) and a local tearoom (01263 587211) overlooking the village green.

The Owner Says

Resting quietly on a Norfolk Prairie are five uniquely designed Handcrafted Wagons. But don’t mistake these for shepherd huts! Those were designed purely as small spaces in which to shelter from the elements. These dwellings are live-in Wagons. A thoroughly more substantial and luxurious space,  more akin to a cabin or a house on wheels.

We are all about being in the beautiful wild and tuning into the natural landscape, so expect a laid-back peaceful vibe without skimping on any of the comforts.

Accommodation

Four wagons are located in 3.25 acres, spread 15-metres apart. Each wagon is equipped with a table and chairs, a double bed with supplied bedding (including duck down and feather duvets), and a kitchen that consists of a two-ring gas hob, sink with hot running water, and a fridge with an ice box. A wood burner is installed in each wagon, while all electricity on-site is generated by a solar array. The wagons share the “Bathhouse”, another wagon, which provides two hot showers and three flushing toilets.
