The Owner Says
Our Bedouin Bell Tent is a Huge six-meter diameter bell tent which sleeps two adults and up to four children, in the style of a Bedouin camp, with comfy scatter cushions, rugs, a double bed and fold out z beds for the children. The Bell Tent contains everything the pods do, including an outside decked seating area and a communal outside undercover seating area, all bedding, towels eating cooking and washing up equipment, communal brick built firepit, hot shower room and composting loo. The only difference is that even though still only 20 meters from the communal areas, the tent is hidden away in it's own special little wooded clearing, with secret passages that the children (and adults) will adore made out of Adams (the man of the house!) unique wood sculptures. The tent is completely off grid therefore no electricity, but if phones need charging etc, you are welcome to use our electricy in the house! We also have a laundry room for longer stays. The bell tent has an indoor wood burner as heating, plus a cooking station containing gas stove and BBQ, crockery, cutlery, pans, BBQ tools, tea, coffee, sugar, milk, and bottled water (although all water onsite is drinking water). All bedding and towels are included. The tent also has a cool box, and guests are welcome to top up their ice containers in our freezer when needed!
Guests have full access to the 10-acre woodland where they can forage for wood and kindling. We also have deer, foxes, the occasional badger and resident owls which you can hear most nights. Ducks and chickens also roam freely. We have bats that live in the tree tops who you will see flitting about at dusk!
Local attractions include Bucklebury Farm Park, Finkley Down Farm, 4 Kingdoms Farm Park, Beacon Hill, Highclere Castle (aka Downton Abbey), Watership Down, and the market towns of Hereford and Newbury. The local village market on the last Saturday of every month is very good.
You may also like to visit The Living Rainforest, The Watermill Theatre, Snelsmore Common, Newbury Racecourse, West Berks Museum and the Bombay Sapphire distillery which hosts tours in its awesome old premises.
There are three lovely local pubs within walking distance – The Rampant Cat, The Furze Bush Inn and The Highclere Red House. There are also many beautiful walks. There is also a very old flint church and a park. We are only 40 mins from London and 40 mins from the seaside.
We are in the AONB (area of outstanding natural beauty) meaning we are one of the last dark places in England without light pollution so it gets rather dark around here!!! a torch is a must, as our planning permission only allows lighting in the pods not the bell tent area, the loo or the washroom, therefore it is essential to bring torches, wood for he stove and tealights for the candle holders and lanterns provided. We love it here, we are so lucky to live here and we'd love you to come and share the magical surroundings with us, if only for a couple of days!!!
We are open all year and I am most always on site to help, during the times when we are not actually within the property, we just leave your accommodation open so you can help yourself!!!
