The Owner Says

Bustard Hut started life as a hay-trailer on the farm, and has been lovingly converted into a family cabin. Secluded at the bottom of our meadow and surrounded by woodland, Bustard hut is perfect for young adventurers! The king-size bed with panoramic views across the fields offers a bit of luxury for mum and dad, and the sturdy bunk-bed is a hit with the kids. The kitchenette has all you need with a fridge, electric hob and microwave. The bathroom is also en-suite with a shower. Seating/dining areas are provided both inside and outside. Bustard has a large elevated deck to the side that overlooks our private woodland (perfect for den building), and additionally there is a firepit/BBQ area. All linen and towels are provided along with unlimited firewood and marshmallows! No Wifi but the phone signal is very good if you're not ready for a digital detox.

Features & Facilities

We are family owned and run. We love meeting and chatting to guests that come to stay with us, whilst also allowing you complete space and privacy. We will always make an effort to make personal recommendations and go the extra-mile to ensure that you have a comfortable and memorable stay. Having started out 7 years ago with just The Coach House, we are proud that guests return year after year, and many we now count as friends. We provide a complimentary welcome hamper to all guests at check-in (milk, homemade sourdough, farm eggs etc) and a local information pack with suggested itineraries, recommendations and activities. We do run events and workshops here and there, so it's worth looking at our website or instagram if you'd like to join in!

The history of the area is hard to beat. Stonehenge is just around the corner, and a walk around our grounds alone will take you past 5000 year-old earthworks and burial mounds. Just last year a hoard of bronze-age axe-heads was found in one of our fields. In the wider area there are some world-class hikes to be discovered, taking in the famous white-horses of the Ridgeway, Avebury and Wansdyke to the north, or the New-Forest with it's wild ponies to the south. Finally, our area has some award-winning eateries and vine yards to be explored, particularly in Winchester and the villages surrounding the river Test (also great for a spot of wild-swimming!).

Food & Drink

The Malet Arms is a beautiful 40 minute walk away through the Estate (or 5 minute drive). It's a traditional Pub with a roaring fire, kitchen garden and locally sourced menu, and we always recommend it. It is also dog and family friendly. Slightly further afield there are numerous award-winning eateries, too many to mention, but foodies will enjoy a visit to the Red Lion in East Chisenbury or The Greyhound on the Test. Stockbridge is also a great option for delis, coffee and light lunches.

Getting There

From the A303 about eight miles east of Stonehenge, head towards Cholderton on the A338. After a couple of miles, at the first roundabout, take the first exit on to Grateley Road and then continue onto Cholderton Road. From here, follow signs to turn left into Kingsettle Stud and the Cholderton Estate.

There’s a train station at Grateley (seven miles from Kingsettle Stud), which is ideal for anyone bringing a bike. Otherwise, the best station to use is Andover (14 miles away), since it has a taxi rank outside.
