Our lovely self catering studio is ideal for tranquil and cosy breaks or retreats to Cornwall and is available to book any time throughout the year. The studio is an L-shaped building, built of straw-bales. The large part of the L is a communal space for events such as yoga and wild-food forage cook & dine lessons and demonstrations, while the small part of the L is peaceful and atmospheric accommodation suitable for two and up to three people.

The studio accommodation includes a shower and hand-crafted kitchen with a huge brass bed, a big comfy sofa, a great woodburner  and all dining facilities. The walls are covered with lime-plaster and painted with lime-wash in warm earthy colours of honeyed golds, terracotta and soft blue while its roof is made of rubber slates from recycled car tyres.

The thick insulation of the straw bales in this eco friendly barn conversion keeps the barn cool in summer and the heat from the wood-burner keeps it toasty warm in the winter. The studio is spacious and the décor is tastefully stylish in a rustic, curvy kind of way!

The private deck overlooks the apple orchard, the woods below and the traditional Cornish field patterns of Cotna Valley on the other side. There are outdoor compost loos, tree-bog style, and our recently installed wee-room complete with haybale – very eco-friendly! There are indoor facilities for night-time if you don’t want to venture outdoors!

We advise that the yurts may be more suitable accommodation for dogs if they are likely feel their territory invaded by Cotna's own two dogs & kitten!

The studio can accommodate an extra person if required - please select 'Extra Person Supplement' from the extras menu and we will add another single mattress.

About Cotna Eco Retreat

A unique haven of peace and tranquillity in Cornwall with comfortable eco-accommodation in yurts, a shepherd’s hut and a strawbale barn – all within a gorgeous 10-acre organic farm

Cotna Eco Retreat is spectacularly situated its own lush green valley close to several beautiful beaches here in Cornwall – Gorran Haven, Vault, Hemmick and Caerhays are all within a 30 minute walk along dog friendly coastal paths or quiet Cornish lanes. Relax in tasteful Cornish holiday accommodation and enjoy our delicious organic food – fresh salad leaves, golden organic eggs, sourdough bread, jams and chutneys. Or participate in one of our courses, learning about wild food foraging & cooking, sourdough bread making or no-dig organic gardening.

Enjoy your stay on the south coast of Cornwall camping (or glamping if you prefer) in one of our two beautiful yurts, or choose the slightly more luxurious self-catering Straw Bale Barn. Our yurts and holiday barn overlook our valley of organic apple orchards, vegetable and fruit gardens, streams, ponds and woodland. Nearby you can visit Cornish landmarks like The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the proper little fishing village of Mevagissey. At the end of your explorations, relax with a drink or a meal at the excellent Barley Sheaf Pub, just a 5-minute walk up our track.

Our holiday yurts are the only two right on the South Coast of Cornwall! Both are named after Cornish apple varieties growing in our orchards. They are available from March through to October. Both can accommodate 2-4 people and there is also space for eco camping outside Tregonna.

The two orchards they sit in are contained by ancient Cornish stone walls, oak and hazel woodland, a running stream with watercress and coloured willow plantings. These magical and secluded surroundings make it an ideal place for retreats and quiet holidays—for individuals, couples or small groups of friends and family.

Both yurts were expertly crafted by Joel Cudsen of Avalon Yurts in Somerset – from local ash, sail canvas and robust polycotton. They are amazing constructions - there is something very special about staying in a round space! They copy the Mongolian yurt design, managing to contain sleeping, cooking & living accommodation comfortably while maintaining a sense of space and light from the central crown. Both have woodburners and solar lighting.

Glamping Site Facilities

Showers, compost loos, recycling, BBQs and washing machine on request. Friendly animals – chickens, ducks, horses cats and dogs. Yurts include rugs, double bed (and bedding), wood-burner, solar LED lights, kitchen equipment and basic provisions. Strawbale Studio includes king-sized bed, en suite shower, a kitchen, dining furniture and a private deck. Sleeping bags are available for Ismay. Solar and wind energy provides the power and water is all sourced from a natural spring on the farm. Sara and Dave can lend you bikes or take you foraging – courses on the farm include wild food forage 'cook & dine', vegetarian cuisine, sourdough bread making and land-based skills.
