The Owner Says

Inside, you'll find North African rugs, silks and stripped furniture. It is nestled in the corner of its own large & sheltered willow lined field, offering guests the privacy and time to reconnect with the Earth. Like Gilliflower it has an effective stove and warm bedding on the double bed with stove and kitchen equipment provided.

We provide everything you need for a yurt holiday in Cornwall. All our holiday yurts have solar lighting with a  warm shower and your own compost loo nearby. There are washing up facilities outside each yurt and a recycling area by the site entrance. There is plenty of space in both fields for camping and additional tents, as well as picnic tables outside each yurt. Two small BBQ’s are in the shed if you would like to cook outside.

Our organic eggs, fruit and veg are available for sale and sourdough bread can be baked to order. We can make up a Cornish vegetarian food hamper for your arrival and delicious food can be provided on request, including special nights for pizzas & authentic home-cooked curries.

The Yurt can accommodate an extra person if required - please select 'Extra Person Supplement' from the extras menu and we will add another single mattress.

Home-Cooked Food

Delicious organic home-grown food is a crucial part of Cotna life; the growing, cooking and eating of it. You can buy food direct from us—the list of seasonal veg and preserves varies. Please see the board outside the barn for current availability. Dried and preserved organic foods such as pasta, rice, lentils, muesli, as well as home-made jams and chutneys are always available.

The food we eat is vegetarian and has a fresh, gourmet, international feel. As we are a vegetarian smallholding we greatly appreciate that you keep the cooking of meat to a minimum. We can cater for vegans and those with special diets (gluten intolerance, diabetic, coeliac, or specific allergies). Please give us notice if you would like to order food. And we have a new pizza oven and an excellent Indian chef!

Bedding – We provide duvets and 4 pillows for the double beds. Please bring sleeping bags for the single beds if possible and your own towels.

Lighting – LED’s and solar lights

Heating – woodburners, run on our own sourced wood; the first box is supplied free and further boxes are available for sale for £3 or £5, though you are also welcome to bring in your own wood supplies.

Cooking & Eating – double gas hobs inside each yurt; kitchen hut for recycling and washing up, BBQ’s for each yurt with locally produced charcoal for sale; picnic tables outside each yurt.

Equipment – plates, bowls, cutlery, glasses, bowls and mugs.  Kettle, pots & pans, wok, knives, tin / bottle openers, chopping boards, salad bowls & servers, colanders, washing up bowls, buckets, dustpans & brushes, cool boxes & water carriers, wheelbarrows to transport your things from the parking area

Food –  We can also supply seasonal organic veg, free-range eggs, preserves eg green tomato chutney, jams & marmalade, cordials and home baked sourdough bread (24 hours notice). We have wholesale organic dried foods (oats, seeds, pasta, rice) for sale at reasonable prices.

Washing – Cornwall’s finest pure Cotna spring water for drinking, cooking with and washing up; several sinks; shower shed with heated water, eco-friendly washing up liquid, soap and recycled loo paper

Sara and Dave can lend you bikes or take you foraging – courses on the farm include sourdough bread making, wild food forage 'cook & dine', vegetarian cuisine, sourdough bread making and land-based skills. Visit their website for further details.

Activities

Gorran Haven, Hemmick, Caerhays and Vault beaches are all within a half hour walk – Dave keeps the parish footpaths clear that lead you out to the coast and join the renowned South West Coast Path. Vault is a wonderfully long, unspoiled beach, a slight walk away from its carpark and consequently one of the quietest spots, while Hemmick is perfect for watching sunsets. The local villages are also well worth a visit; nearby Gorran Haven boasts an ancient harbour and an excellent old pub. Picturesque Portmellon is also within strolling distance – be sure to stop by The Rising Sun Inn (01726 843235), a perfect spot for a drink by the beach. Or head out to Dodman Point (01872 580553), where an Iron Age hillfort sits on the headland with its ruins and huge stone cross reached via footpath from Penare. The Lost Gardens of Heligan (01726 845100) are also walkable (around an hour each way) with over 200 varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs, an intriguing subtropical jungle and vast, wooded grounds to explore. The world famous Eden Project (01726 811911) is half an hour in the car and, in the opposite direction, it's 10 minutes to Caerhay's Castle (01872 501310).

Food & Drink

Organic home-produced hampers are available on-site for breakfast and evening meals, with home-made preserves, sourdough bread and seasonal produce. Pure springwater also on tap. There is a good local farm shop, Lobbs (01726 844411) as well as post office shops nearby. It's a 5 minute walk to the The Barley Sheaf pub (01726 843330) just up the track. Built in 1837 by local farmer William Kendall and recently restored and re-opened by his great-great-great grandson, it's a fabulous little place serving food daily and with real ales on tap. And just a walk down the valley is The Shack serving great coffee and food, next to the sea and The Paddle Shed at Port Mellon.
