The Owner Says
Peake’s Retreats currently has two six-metre all-weather yurts set in a spacious field surrounded by tall hedges for extra weather protection, and peace of mind if you have children. Both of our yurts are capable of accommodating six people so are perfect for families and large groups, but are equally just as cozy for a couple looking for a romantic getaway. We can also offer travel cots for infants if required, just ask. The yurts are weather-proofed and well insulated so are ideal for use all year round. There is no electricity to the yurts themselves so candles and a torch are provided but you may bring extra if you wish. Charging facilities are available for phones/tablets and there is a hairdryer located in the shower block. The yurts each have a wood burning stove, for heat and for cooking, however if the weather is too warm to light your stove you can whip up some culinary delights in either our fully equipped kitchen area or by using the fire pit located outside of your yurt, complete with cooking tripod. We do also have a portable BBQ available for outdoor use by your yurt, and our large but cozy Finnish BBQ hut is available for guests to use. We also have a communal hot tub which seats eight people and is located centrally to the yurts. Our luxurious, spacious washrooms are located in the shower and toilet block near to the car park. You will find a selection of Neal’s Yard Remedies Organic toiletries for you to use along with full length mirrors and hairdryers. The washing up area can also be found in here, along with a drinking water tap, lockers for charging phones and tablets and, for rainy days, we have a selection of games and books free to guests.
We would like to give you a breakfast pack to kickstart your stay which will include locally-sourced sausages, bacon, beans, tomatoes, bread and free range eggs from our own chickens. Enough for every guest. A vegetarian option is available; please state if you would prefer this option on your booking form. We will also provide all bedding and linen for the duration of your stay along with luxury fluffy towels for each guest.
Features & FacilitiesThe 6m yurts have either a king-sized or super-king-sized bed, along with daybeds and sofa beds (bedding, linen and towels provided) and a wood-burning stove for heating. Travel cots available if required. Facilities include an 8-seater hot tub, a large Finnish BBQ hut, fire-pit (and tripod) outside each yurt, a children's play area, a fully equipped kitchen cabin and a luxury shower and toilet block (with hair-dryers, full-length mirrors and toiletries). Phone charging available. No electricity in the yurts, but candles and torches provided. Complimentary breakfast pack provided on arrival (see Food & Drink).
ActivitiesPeake's Retreats is 12 miles from Ashbourne, an old market town that is considered the gateway to the Peak District. From here there are a wealth of good walks in the White Peak Area (the lower, southern half of the Peak District), including in the excellent Dovedale National Nature Reserve (01335 350503). The most popular route is to walk from National Trust-owned Ilam Park (01335 350503) to the Stepping Stones which takes you right along the bank of the River Dove for most of the route. Those on two wheels, meanwhile can take to the Tissington trail – a well-known cycle trail and bridle path which runs from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay (13 miles; traffic free). In the opposite direction, it's 4 miles from Peake's Retreats to the brewing town of Burton Upon Trent, famous for Bass beer. Here you'll find The National Brewing Museum (01283 532880) along with plenty of bars and restaurants and some well known high street shops. There are also some lovely walks around the river Trent. For families, it is a 5-minute drive from The National Forest Adventure Farm (01283 533933), a 30-minute drive to Alton Towers (0871 222 3330) and a 40-minute drive to the Monkey Forest (01782 659845) at Trentham, where you can also find a selection of boutique shops and have a wander around the beautiful gardens.
Food & DrinkFor you're first morning at the site a complimentary breakfast pack provided is given to you on arrival, including locally sourced sausages, bacon, beans, tomatoes, bread and free range eggs from Peake's Retreats' own chickens (vegetarian option also available). It's a 20-minute walk or a 2-minute drive down the road to The Bell Inn (01283 812838), a reasonably priced, modern pub, but for something special it's worth the 15-minute drive to The Swan at Walton (01283 712 378) – a proper gastro pub with excellent cocktails and proclaiming itself "a permanent beer festival", owing to its wide range of real ales. The Bull in Repton (01283 704422; 20 minutes) is also excellent – a traditional Victorian ale inn with a creative gastro menu and wood-fired pizza oven. For locally sourced grub, head into Anslow Village where there is an excellent farm shop.
Peake's Retreats is 4 miles outside of Burton On Trent. If you're using a Sat Nav enter the postcode DE13 9QT. This will take you to Hanbury Road. Travel along Hanbury road until you reach the holy trinity church. If the church is on your left continue along the road and Peake's Retreats is the next property on the right. For full detailed directions, please visit the Peake's Retreats website. The closest train station is Burton On Trent, but Lichfield is also an option. Peake's Retreats can help organise a transfer from the train station (as well as from East Midlands Airport).
