Luxury camping pods with hot tubs in a Scottish Borders farm with tremendous valley views

Farming has been in the Anderson family for generations. They've been tending to their private land and livestock in the Scottish Borders for over a century but, after all that time, decided they had a place that was too special to keep to themselves. The aptly named Stouslie Snugs Farm is that place. The Andersons recognised that its unparalleled views of the Teviotdale Valley made it the perfect spot to tuck a couple of cosy camping pods into. Now, visitors can wake up to the same enviable scope of Scotland’s rolling hills that the Andersons have enjoyed for years.

You won’t find Teviotdale on any map of Scotland, with this Middle Ages terminology for the area having been officially removed after it was assimilated into the Scottish Borders. However, in Stouslie Farm you will be able to see what locals still refer to as Teviotdale Valley with your own eyes, all from the comfort of one of two newly constructed pods which are affectionately referred to as “snugs” by the Andersons — purposely designed with the farm’s spectacular views in mind.

The snugs are handcrafted with local timber and their glass-fronted design allows you to enjoy the valley view even before you’ve stepped foot outside. Each snug has its own enclosed garden, ensuring your privacy as you cook on the American-style charcoal barbecue or take a dip in the wood-fired hot tub. Take a dip, eat some ribs, and watch the Andersons’ neighbouring livestock roam the adjacent fields, with shorthorn cows, calves, sheep and lambs all sharing your surroundings.

Each snug also boasts an en-suite bathroom with a shower and toilet, along with a kitchenette that provides a real home-away-from-home vibe. This is further exemplified by the inclusion of a 32-inch Smart TV, letting you snuggle into the comfy corner sofa for a night of Netflix and grill as you enjoy whatever culinary delights you’ve whipped up on the BBQ.

If you’re feeling in need of a change of scenery, then perhaps head for the famous Borders Abbeys Way walk. This epic 68-mile long-distance footpath, punctuated by ruined Scottish abbeys and designated as one of Scotland’s Great Trails, passes close by the farm. Alternatively, for something less strenuous, the scenic town of Hawick, a consistent winner of national floral awards, is a short drive away. Spend your day in the Hawick Museum, located in an 18th-century mansion and the oldest museum in the Scottish Borders, to soak up the local history, or visit the Borders Distillery to soak up the local Scotch.
