A yurt farm without yurts but with plenty of space, wilderness and peace and quiet

What is a yurt farm? Is it a regular farm that happens to have yurts on it? Or is it a place where yurts are farmed, grown from tiny little yurtlings into fully-grown wood and canvas structures? In fact, the Yurt Farm in central Cerdigion is neither. And, despite the name, it is currently, confusingly, not home to any yurts at all.

Having spent years welcoming glampers to their namesake structures, The Yurt Farm have taken a break for 2020, while they re-shape the farm to make it even better than before. In the interim, however, couples or families can enjoy the site all to themselves, with a beautifully restored train carriage available in the most beautiful area of the farm.

Overlooking a spacious hay meadow, formerly occupied by the yurts, the train carriage has gorgeous views of the Cambrian Mountains. The location of this glampsite is perfect; ridiculously remote and enveloped in the sort of rich, green countryside for which Wales is famous. And the love is evident everywhere; a welcome basket of tasty veg for guests; the comfy king-sized organic mattress on your bed; a woodburner to keep you cosy. The smell of the western red cedar that lines the carriage is incredible.

Most of the glamping time here will no doubt be spent outdoors, with so much space to fill on the farm. In all, there are 150 acres to be discovered, criss-crossed by a network of farm trails and children are free to explore, make dens, hide in the long grass, play in the sand, hang off rope swings, collect eggs, be licked by cows and gorge themselves silly on the blackcurrants and gooseberries that grow in the meadow.

With the striking Cambrian mountains as a backdrop to this enchanting place, there’s no doubt this beautiful, remote location enhances the blissed-out go-slow vibe. But if it’s the yurts your after on this wild and beautiful yurt farm, then, until next year, the farmer hasn’t finished growing them yet.

The Owner Says

The Yurt Farm, in 2009 Thea and Laurie set up a small glamping site on their organic family farm twenty minutes from Cardigan Bay. Four muddy children later we are even more passionate about what we do; we live for wood, good food and fresh air. The yurt meadow is secluded with four yurts and a cosy train carriage in a hay meadow surrounded by woodland under a very starry sky. Collect eggs from the hens that cluck around the yurts and fry them up for breakfast on your campfire while you listen to the birds singing. Taste delicious organic vegetables and meat from the farm shop. Fire up the pizza oven. Meet the cows and sheep and harvest some tasty vegetables for tea. Play games in the communal cabin. Relax while your children build dens and catch grasshoppers in the long grass... you'll love it xx
