The Owner Says

After a long day exploring the area or walking by the coast our lodges are designed to be the perfect base to come back to, sit back, relax and take in the sunset across the lake.

Each lodge sleeps up to 6 (max 4 adults, single household group in 2021 unless by prior arrangement) and 1 dog. There is a large master bedroom with a king bed, a bunk bed room sleeping 2 (with double full size bunkbed), and a king cabin bed for those that want to hideaway. All with proper beds made up with luxurious bed linen, superwarm duvets and cosy blankets. Everyone will be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the otter brook burbling past. Behind the bedrooms is shower room and separate cloak room with basin and flushing toilet

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you should need including a gas hob, sink, cooking utensils, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and glassware. Each lodge is equipped with a cold locker which will keep items well chilled for a few days until you swap over the cold blocks. Across from the kitchen area is a full size dining table great for a long lingering supper.

Our lodges are lit with a mixture of lamps and candles, at the heart of the lodge is our wood burning stove, surrounded by vintage leather chesterfields: it will keep the lodge warm in all weathers and is the perfect spot to finish the evening.

There is large raised deck area at the front of the lodge with stunning views across the coastal hills, where better to sit with a glass of wine and a book on a summer afternoon. Relax in the private wood fired hot tub.  outside is a picnic table, firepit and BBQ for campfire cooking or as evening settles sitting by a crackling log fire whilst gazing at the stars across the immense West Wales night sky.

Questions and FAQs

What else should I bring along?

Bring a picnic rug if you fancy a picnic in the wild-flower meadow or by the stream.

A few extra torches are handy we provide lamps for the lodges but there is no ambient lighting around the farm at night so a good torch is great for finding your way and making sure you don’t step on a frog in your flip flops.

A couple of extra boxes of matches, someone always misplaces the lighters we provide and you don’t want to be flameless as night draws in.

Evenings are longer without the distraction of TV and internet so some games to play as a family are always a good idea and bring along your favourite books to read by lamplight.

Food (obviously) and maybe some essential store items, salt, pepper, butter, oil if you are going in for some proper camp cooking, and maybe marshmallows for toasting on the fire. But don’t go overboard the nearest supermarket is only 10mins away.

Will I be warm enough ?

Our lodges are very luxurious, weatherproof, windproof and equipped with thick warm duvets and but its still made of wood and canvas, so if you’re prone to feeling the cold pyjamas are good for bedtime and its worth packing a wellies, a coat and a few jumpers just in case the British summer weather isn’t so summery, layering is key.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are always welcome by arrangement at Sloeberry Farm, all we ask is you keep them on a short lead at all times  and clean up all dog mess straight away so another guest doesn’t stand in it.

Are the showers hot and what about the loos?

A hot shower is crucial after a day out on the beach, all of our showers supply a limitless amount of hot water (no putting 50p in a meter which runs out just when you have got your shampoo in) and all of our toilets are modern flushing variety.

Can I have a campfire?

In our opinion campfires are a key part of camping. Not only do they offer warmth, and an atmospheric backdrop to an evening but they also provide plenty of heat for cooking. Each lodge has its own fire pit with access to a good supply of firewood which you can buy daily on site. Be it baking potatoes, toasting marshmallows or cooking a cowboy chilli, as the stars start to twinkle, the camp fire becomes the centrepiece of your evening.  Only logs provided by or purchased at Sloeberry Farm can be used on the campfires, wood burners and hot tubs.

Is there electricity to power my hairdryer, straighteners etc?

Sloeberry Farm is a mains electricity free experience so as well as having slightly frizzy hair, there’s no internet, TV, email or games consoles to be distracted by.

Lonely Planet recently voted Cardigan Bay "the best place to be in the world right now" and it certainly fits the bill with it's mix of fantastic beaches and coastal villages, yet still retaining a relatively uncrowded feel, especially out of peak season. Cliff walks on the coastal path, sandy bays and National Trust-owned beaches are the highlights. By car, the town of Cardigan is not far away, formed around a Norman castle which is open to the public and boasts a great café and frequent outdoor events. Nearby Cilgerran Castle (01239 621339) still welcomes visitors – its two massive drum towers dominate the surroundings. North, picture perfect New Quay has a cobbled stone harbour – with plenty of cafés and fantastic chippies, it's a great place to enjoy the views and spot the Cardigan Bay dolphins

Food & Drink

The nearest pub, the Penllwyndu Inn (01239 682533), is an easy mile and a half walk away – don’t be put off by the hangman's noose sign! There are plenty of other places to eat and drink within within easy striking distance. Cardigan the local town (ten mins away) has plenty of choice, plus a supermarket for supplies, whilst Aberporth Bay (five mins) is slightly smaller but has a great fish and chip shop (01239 811003) next door to The Ship Inn (01239 810822), both of which have excellent views of the beach.

Family Friendly

Getting back to nature doesn't mean giving up every modern luxury – as Sloeberry Farm shows – but there are some that you'll certainly not need while you're here. Put down the iPads, switch off the Kindle, throw away their phones and let the kids loose.
