The Owner Says

Pip Pin Yurt is located in the field just south of  apple campsite, giving more privacy but with all the facilities of the main site, it is a beautifully furnished Mongolian-style yurt for up to four guests, providing an open and relaxed space for you to gather, eat and rest together. Beds and all bedding are provided, there's a wood-burning stove to keep you cosy, and adjacent to the yurt, you will find a purpose-built outdoor kitchen under a rustic cover, equipped with all the basics pots pans, cutlery and crockery you will need.
Only a stone's throw away is the facilities building which has hot showers and toilets, (including disabled access) plus a kitchen area with sink, more pots, pans, cutlery, fridges, toaster and kettle. There is also a laundry area with washing machine and dryer which can be used by request at an additional cost. If you like to BBQ...we have a large gas fired grill station with two cooking rings on each side. Speaking of fire, your first nights wood for your wood burning stove is free, and thereafter all the wood you need can be found on site at a reasonable price.  All well behaved dogs welcome. Guests are respectfully requested to remove shoes when wet. Elsewhere on our alternative campsite, you'll see a variety of other glamping structures including a converted Jetstar aeroplane, Showmans' Caravan, Bell tents, Geodesic Dome and coming soon - a UFO! . Our quirky campsite is designed to experience the outdoors in a rustic setting. We look forward to welcoming you to Apple Camping!

For families, Manor House Wildlife Park (01646 651201) offers a chance to explore the globe – head down to the African Village where you can walk with lemurs or trek through the wallaby enclosure in the Australian bush. Back in Britain, the nearby harbour town of Tenby is a cute little spot, with ferries running out to Caldy Island, or try the harbour in Saundersfoot where there is also a sandy, blue flag beach. Freshwater West, meanwhile, was the filing location for Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows and Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, while Barafundle Bay was recently voted the best beach in Wales.

Food & Drink

The family-friendly, Parsonage Farm Inn (01834 871436) in the village of St Florence (2¼ miles) is an excellent local pub, while the Sun (01834 871322), also in St Florence, is a traditional picture-postcard pub full of local memorabilia.

Mouldy, overpriced tents. No first aid kit. Unsuitable for families.

I booked with my family, taking four large tents including the Pac Man tent. Most of the tents were fine, with only a few rough edges. However one of the tents was covered with black mould and mildew and, worse, leaked in several places. This left my sister, with young children and a baby, afraid to use the electric lights and using cups to catch leaks. We complained to the owner, who apologised, promised to look into it and offered to put up a new bell tent for us. Unfortunately the new tent was smaller and had nothing in it - no carpet, no matting, no furniture, making it completely pointless and just as wet. The owner was on site the following day and didn't check in on us even as the rain worsened. Elsewhere, the inconsistent service was another problem. Toilets we're constantly running out of toilet paper. Showers we're flooding. Several of the kitchens for the more expensive tents do not have sinks or fridges as big as the smaller tents. Mice were getting into one of our kitchens. When glamping, I don't expect full hotel service and appreciate the rustic feel. But when you're charging £100s per night and competing with hotel options I expect tents that are at least dry and mould free, facilities which are suitable and an environment that is safe for children. We enjoyed our stay at Apple Camping in Tenby, but it was despite the campsite and not because of it. I wouldn't recommend, especially for families.

Getting There

Turn right off the A477 which is sign posted Redberth then immediately take the next right which is sign posted to Jefferson. You will go over a hump backed bridge approximately 100m then pass Norchard Farmhouse and the farm of the same name on a sharp 90 degree right hand bend. The entrance to Apple Camping is just round this corner on the left.
