Authentic Mongolian yurts and camping in a laid-back Pembrokeshire site with scenic views and friendly alpacas.

Wellstone Camping is what you get when owners with an eye for natural beauty take over an idyllic campsite and spruce it up with their own ideas. Owners Dan and Lesley knew a perfect staycation location when they saw one and, after purchasing Wellstone this year, gave this already-scenic spot a makeover. They added two Mongolian yurts and introduced a 'pitch-where-you-please' policy for regular campers which means everyone gets to enjoy their perfect pitch at this riverside site in Pembrokeshire.

The Wellstone site is tucked away in a valley along the River Tâf, favourably placed just outside the village of Llanfyrnach and 12 miles away from the sprawling Pembrokeshire coast. Visitors can opt to stay in either of the two eye-catching Mongolian yurts, or pick their own spot in one of the site's little pockets of glade camping. This choose-your-own-pitch approach allows guests to find their ideal location (after confirmation from the site's owners) and set up their home-away-from-home just how they like it. Whether you want a view overlooking the river or a pitch nestled in shade, it can probably be arranged. Spend your time away paddling in the river, which has been newly renovated to make it more swimmer-friendly, or get up close with the alpacas that graze the site's fields.

But while its picturesque campsite is inviting in itself, Wellstone's unique Mongolian yurts are certainly its most intriguing option. Both the Red Kite yurt and Badger yurt provide comfortable, authentically-furnished accommodation that is brimming with character. Their colourful East Asian design provides a juxtaposition with their Welsh countryside setting that works surprisingly well. Each yurt boasts its own shower room, flushing toilet, and small kitchen shed too, so they are a lot more than just eye candy.

Although Wellstone Camping is ideal for laid-back campers who don't want to do much moving around, its location within the heart of North Pembrokeshire makes it the ideal spot to drop your bags and explore your surroundings. A disused railway line, dappled with sun and shade, runs through the site for scenic walks, while the mountainous Preseli Hills are only three miles away. Some of the region's finest beaches are within driving distance, such as the dune-backed Newport Sands that's frequently descended upon by surfers, sailors, and anglers alike, and the National Trust hidden cove of Mwnt, where you may spot a dolphin or two frolicking in the open sea. It all makes for one of the most naturally beautiful destinations you're likely to find.

Camping Pitch
The campsite is situated in a lovely green landscape with a river running through. We had a great stay and found the facilities were great. It states there’s kitchen facilities, however, there is only a kettle, sink and fridge - so do be aware if you are planning to cook. The toilet facilities were very clean, the showers did smell of urine, however, I think people had just used them - so can’t blame anyone. We all really enjoyed our time here, the dog loved it too. Can’t wait to return.

Lovely campsite!
My friends and I loved this campsite! Lots of things to do at the campsite including the stream running through the campsite and saying hello to the alpacas. The toilet and shower facilities were great and the stars at night were a highlight of the trip! Owners were really friendly and happy to give us recommendations for the best beaches in the area. Looking forward to returning soon :)

Red Kite Yurt
Amazing!
We loved our weekend in the Red Kite Yurt. Beautiful campsite with the added fun of Alpaca’s. One of the best glamping weekends we’ve had. So much fun to be had there.

Our family of 4 stayed for a long weekend over the Bank Holiday in our own tent, upon arrival we managed to find ourselves a lovely spot next to the river, you can pick where you want to go and there was plenty of space, we found the site to be lovely and clean, showers and toilets were cleaned daily several times but being a camp site the floors get grassy/muddy at times but wasn't an issue, there was a small hut with a sink and a fridge which was ample to do our dishes in, within an hour of being on site the owners arrived and greeted everyone, making time to chat to people and offer directions etc if you needed any thing, they were really lovely, the kids loved the open space and made lots of friends and everyone ended up having an obstacle race with the kids and adults included which was great fun we even had a a dinsoar visit us! 😀 the atmosphere was very relaxed and because the cars were not allowed onto the camping area, it felt much safer for the children to run around, and boy did they run around, by 9pm it was silent on the camp site as most people had gone to bed, we took advantage of the free use of the fire pit and purchases a bag of wood for a small fee every night, we sat in front of the fire every night and gazed at the millions of stars above us as the sky was so clear. We absolutely loved our stay and have already planned to go back next year!!

From the host
Wellstone Yurts and Camping promises peaceful riverside yurts and camping pitches, woodland walks, fantastic birdlife and friendly alpacas. The site is nestled in a valley on the upper reaches of the River Taf, just 12 miles from the stunning Pembrokeshire coastline. You can walk along the disused railway line dappled with sun and shade, take a dip in the river or simply chill out by your tent. There is also a beautiful reclaimed lake for wild swimming. The location is truly magical – a sun trap when the skies are blue and sheltered from coastal winds. We have two traditional Mongolian Yurts complete with authentic furniture. Each yurt has its own fully equipped small kitchen shed and firepit and comes ready for your arrival with fresh linen and clean towels. In addition we have 10-15 pitches for you to bring your own tent. We have reduced the number of pitches for 2022 to give an even more relaxed atmosphere on site. Fire pits are available free of charge on site and we have a modern purpose built shower / toilet block.
